Construction Skill in OSRS

A member-only skill, construction allows users to create and provide furniture for their own homes. Players need to buy a house from one of the estate agents located in several cities of the Oldschool to start construction. A starter house is going to cost 1,000 GP, and would be situated in Rimmington(PoH). A Magic spell of level 40 can then be used to teleport players to the house (teleport to house spell), or players can walk to Rimmington, where a portal can transport players to their home.

Construction is an expensive skill if cost per XP is considered. The skill requires hefty amount of investment in terms of planks and logs to train. The amount can be up to 200M OSRS gold – don’t even worry if you are running low on the in game gold supply, you can always buy osrs gold from one of our enlisted trusted seller.

The house begins with just a garden and a parlour, but it can create furniture and additional rooms. Go to the Options menu to build, pick house options, and switch the building mode to on. Players can then see what appears like ghost-like hotspots where they can build new objects. For details on what you can build at what level, check out the List of Constructed items.

How to train construction quickly? Construction is arguably RuneScape’s most costly skill, because the supplies required to train Construction can be very expensive. A player can train Construction at any time they want, but it is better to have a lot of spare money to purchase a large number of planks to make training fast and effective.

OSRS Ironman Construction Guide

Because ironman are unable to use the Grand Exchange, a substantial number of trees would need to be cut down to meet construction needs. Chunk of this issue can be mitigated with Managing Miscellania for teak and mahogany planks, but the output is somewhat small, so cutting trees elsewhere is advised to optimize log production.

Construction Experience Table and cost per construction material

Plank Cost – 99: A plank type can be used starting at the earliest levels, players can anticipate the following:

Oak Planks from level 15-99 will make use of 217,201 planks at a Grand Exchange price of 105,559,686

Teak Planks from level 35-99 will make use of 144,579 planks at a Grand Exchange price of 142,844,052

Mahogany Planks from level 40-99 will make use of 92,838 planks at aGrand Exchange price of 201,922,650

Planking and Cutting your own logs can save significant amounts of money in exchange for taking up more of your time. Cost of logs if instead of being cut they are purchased:

Cost of Oak: 3,692,417

Cost of Teak: 27,325,431

Cost of Mahogany: 38,806,284

Cost of making planks:

Cost of Oak: 54,300,250

Cost of Teak: 72,289,500

Cost of Mahogany: 139,257,000

Construction experience isn’t handed out to players if they make planks at a sawmill. These rates are dependent on when the furniture is being constructed.

For various metal nails, the player is given slightly different experience, cost / experience and cost points.

Nails crafted from stronger metals have a smaller risk of bending, which helps in speeding up the method of producing specific furniture.

The cost of any additional method of transport to get to the Sawmill is not considered.

These logs used for planks can also be used to train fletching if you are not keen to train construction.

The amount per point of experience is dependent on rates in the Grand Exchange. The price of “free” components (i.e. materials that can only be produced with effort) indicates the price at which one might sell such objects if they had not been used on Construction.

Notes: You may change clay into soft clay by incorporating water to the clay. This can be achieved in a player-owned house using a kitchen or garden water supply. By using a chisel on limestone, the player can transform limestone stone into limestone bricks.

General Tips for Training Construction

You would need to visit any Estate agent before you can even begin Construction and pay a one-time charge of 1,000 to buy a house in Rimmington. The house should have two rooms; a Garden and a Parlour; almost nothing is built for you aside from the exit portal situated in the garden.

In order to be able to construct items, the player requires a hammer and a saw.

To obtain maximum speed, it’s strongly suggested you have level 40 in Magic so that you may cast Teleport to House, else you’ll have to sprint from your bank to a house portal. You can also cast Falador Teleport at level 37 Magic to get convenient access to a bank. Use of an elemental staff to save on runes and inventory space is suggested. Put another way, on a PVP world, you can teleport to Camelot, and you’ll just need Law runes if you’re using an Air Staff and the bank chest is situated really near the teleport. And if you’re in a PvP setting, you can’t get attacked over here.

Carrying weight-reducing gear is advised because you won’t deplete running energy as rapidly as you go to and from your house. You may leave any of your planks in the bank if you are at 40 + Construction and have employed a butler. If prompted, the butler can grab as many as you the player demands.

When a player hits level 30 they will start transforming Long and Curved bones into Barlak for construction experience as well as some coins. He can be located within the city of Dorgesh-Kaan, which is inaccessible until or unless Death to the Dorgeshuun has been completed by the player. Remember that they can only be collected from monsters that are able to drop large bones, and even apart from that, the special bones in themselves are particularly uncommon, with long bones having the drop rate of around 1/400 and curved bones having a drop rate of 1/5000.

There will be a number “hotkey” for quick training in Construction while you are building different objects in your home. Click the “1” key to remove it automatically while removing said item(s).

You may use Phials in Rimmington to assist with the training with players beginning Construction who are unable to pay their butler to get materials from the bank. Phials, for 5 per item, would unnote every noted item given to him, which is considerably cheaper than paying your butler to do it instead. It is considerably slower than a demon butler or a human, and is not suggested if dungeon oak doors are being built for training.

You may build Bedrooms after achieving level 20 in Construction. In order to recruit a servant from the Servants’ Guild in East Ardougne you would require 2 Bedrooms in your house. It is advised to pick up either the Butler or Demon butler (bear in mind, it takes 40 and 50 in Construction respectively), as they can pick up items from the bank very efficiently; every¬† other servant underneath the human butler will be too sluggish. Butlers will also ask for an allowance after completing and providing eight services (not all of them will be considered). When you already have a servant and intend to shift to a new one, you’re going to have to fire the present servant and head out to the Servants ‘ Guild and recruit another one. Servants will be paid automatically by the moneybag of the Servant which will thus save a great deal of time.

Playing in resizable mode and zooming all the way in is a trick to train with limited mouse movements. Widen the screen of the game a little to create more room between the chat box and the control panel on the right hand side. Place the Hotspot (whichever one you wish to train) at the bottom of the screen. Then place the mouse over the hotspot and slightly above the button saying ‘report’. If performed correctly, the choices for build and remove will be at the same location as the option to right click.

1-99 Construction Guide

Crude wooden chairs – (from Level 1-19)

If materials are bought from the Grand Exchange, crude wooden chairs need 2 nails and 2 planks each, costing up to 60,217. (The player can also purchase bronze nails from the sawmill for 2 gp each, although they will have to wait for the sawmill to world hop or restock.) Cutting the logs by yourself and turning them into planks at the sawmill would cost about 14,300, a less expensive (albeit slower) alternative for collecting planks is if the player world hops at the 4 plank spawns outside the Barbarian Outpost’s north fence. Upon building a crude wooden chair, the player is awarded 58 Construction experience. You need to go to your house to get going, proceed to building mode, then right-click Build Chair space inside the Parlour. Press 1 to choose the crude wooden chair, then wait for the chair to be built by your player, which requires a variable period of time due to bending of nails. Right-click Remove Chair, then press 1 to confirm once the chair is built.

  • Experience needed: 3,973
  • Chairs to goal: 69
  • Plank: Inventory image of Plank Planks needed: 138
  • Nails: Inventory image of Nails Nails needed: 143 minimum, (You’ll need ~700/~400/~200 nails when using Bronze / Iron / Steel Nails respectively)
  • Time: ~30 minutes.

Points to remember:

You can build regular Wooden chairs, At level 8, at the cost of 3 nails and 3 wooden planks, wooden chairs offer 87xp (with no xp loss faster than crude wooden chairs). This may be required to counteract bending based on the form of nails used.

Oak chairs – (From Level 19-33)

You may start building Oak Chairs at level 19, which have a constant building period because they don’t need the nails. Which makes them far quicker than Wooden Chairs.

  • Experience needed: 14,245
  • Chairs to goal: 119
  • Oak planks needed: 238
  • Cost: -115,668
  • Cost per XP: -8.12

Points to remember:

For the 5k Construction experience award, players may complete The Fremennik Isles upon reaching level 20. You can construct an Oak workbench at level 32 which helps you to create Flatpack oak furniture including the Carved oak table without needing to remove furniture every time, which is a slower but far lower training method in terms of effort.

Oak larders – (From Level 33-74)

Oak larders need eight oak planks each, probably going to cost about 8,732,448 if materials are purchased from the Grand Exchange, each giving 480 experience in construction. It would cost 4,492,000 if you cut the logs by yourself and convert them into planks.Buying oak planks from the Grand Exchange is also advised, because making the planks yourself would take an incredibly long time. When training with larders, it is suggested to get a demon butler.

(Keep in mind that the approximation below is at level 74 and not level 99)

  • Experience needed: 1,078,031
  • Larders to goal: 2,246
  • Oak planks needed: 17,968
  • Experience per hour: Between 140,000 – 490,000
  • Time: 5 to 7 hours.
  • Cost: -8,732,448
  • Cost per XP: -8.1

Mahogany bookcases – (From Level 40-52)

Building a Mahogany bookcase (flatpack) at the workbench is a low-effort way to train, requiring 3 mahogany planks each and 8 bookcases every round. The building of a bookcase of mahogany offers 420 experiences each. Just sell the flatpacks  at the Rimmington shopkeeper and unnote with Phials. Or the player could use the demon butler to retrieve the 24 Mahogany planks each round.

Attaining level 52 in construction enables the player to construct the Armour stand using a crystal saw by utilizing the Mahogany table training method listed below.

  • Experience needed: 86,416
  • Mahogany planks needed: 618
  • Experience per hour: 150,000
  • Time: <1 hour
  • Cost: -1,344,150
  • Cost per XP: -15.55

Mythical cape (mounted) – (From Level 50-74/99)

A mounted mythical cape needs 3 teak planks each, together with a mystical cape (the cape is being reused). In order to attain a mythical cape, Dragon Slayer II must be completed (which involves a level of 50 in Construction, with no boosts permitted), rendering this process less feasible for accounts of a lower level. The experience per plank is boosted by constructing guild trophies culminating in 370 experiences for every mythical cape (mounted), offering a boosted xp per gp that has been invested. Just because of that, it’s more beneficial for ironman who do not have easy access to planks and can not get them easily. This approach will give you a cumulative productivity of 200k experience per hour, un-noting with Phials in Rimmington. This method of un-noting is very beneficial for players training prayer through Gilded Altar in PoH.

A Cook is a feasible approach which is marginally slower than the Demon Butler but still less than half the expense. When the cook has to grab 15 planks at a time, a journey takes almost the same time as constructing 5 capes (17 seconds), ensuring you’ll be restocked right before you run out of planks. It offers around 270,000-320,000 experiences every hour, which is effective at an average pace when it comes to travel time. This therefore stops the inventory from getting overfilled only with the help of proper attention,  in result that you can not uninstall the cape.

An alternate strategy to working for Phials is a demon butler -you can carry a limit of 24, teak planks with this approach (saw, hammer, coin stack, and cape slot take up 4 out of the 28 inventory slots) improved to 25 if you bank the coins and utilize a Servant’s money bag (necessitates level 58 to build and does not have any boost in Exp per hour really). This technique will provide you with a peak efficiency of 300,000-425,000 experience per hour, but needs very precise clicking and is therefore unreliable, because planks are delivered quicker than you can use them.

  • Experience that is required from 47-74: 1,021,151
  • Cape mounts that are required to 74: 2,759
  • Teak planks that are required: 8,277
  • Time estimate from 47-74: 4 hours
  • Cost: -8,177,676
  • Cost for every XP: -8.01
  • Experience that is required from 47-99: 12,959,304
  • Cape mounts that are required to 99: 35,026
  • Teak planks that are required: 105,078
  • Time estimate from 47-99: 48 to 52 hours.
  • Cost: -103,817,064
  • Cost every XP: -8.01
  • Experience that is gained every hour: 300,000+

Mahogany tables – (From Level 52-99)

One other option is to train building tables of Mahogany, which need 6 planks of mahogany each. The building of a table with mahogany offers 840 experiences for each table. It is significantly more costly but quicker than the oak larders. The best way to do this is to use a demon butler and create 2 tables in the period that the demon butler takes to get planks from the bank, offering between 600k and 900k an hour which is entirely up to your performance.

  • Experience that is required: 12,910,771
  • Tables to goal: 15,369
  • Mahogany planks that are required: 92,214
  • Experience gained every hour: 700,000 – 900,000
  • Time estimate: 18 to 22 hours
  • Cost: -200,565,450
  • Cost per XP: -15.53

Teak garden benches – (From Level 66-74)

Building Teak garden benches instead is a faster choice than constructing Oak larders, which needs 6 teak planks each. Creating teak garden benches offers 540 experiences each, which is marginally quicker than the 480 experience oak larders have provided. However when it comes to the mahogany tables, using a demon butler is the most efficient process.

  • Experience that is required: 600,024
  • Benches to goal: 1,112
  • Teak planks that are required: 6,672
  • Experience gained every hour: 300,000-500,000
  • Time estimate: 1.7 to 2 hours
  • Cost: -6,591,936
  • Cost per XP: -10.99

Oak dungeon doors (From Level 74-99)

A further possibility is to train using doors in the Oak Dungeon which need 10 planks of oak each. When supplies are bought from the Grand Exchange, it would cost 96,699,420, and 49,742,500 when you turn them into planks yourself. As with previous approaches, purchasing them is somewhat of a quicker experience than manufacturing them.

Building an oak door provides the players with a Construction experience of 600. For this approach the human butler is generally preferred because the demon butler is really fast and will interrupt players if they aren’t quick enough. The demon-butler can be used for this process only with very high efficiency.

For the Demon Butler, you will use the’ build and remove’ technique as shown above to obtain maximum experience levels ranging about 450k-517.2k an hour while still keeping down 1 continuously. When you hold down 1 left click on your Demon butler to make him acquire 25 Oak planks for you, in this period you have enough time to create and install the two doors before he returns. You will end up having five extra Oak planks inside your inventory, have your option to build on the door completely prepared as when the Demon butler returns and create another door as soon as you grab planks, then double click the Demon butler to send it off for more planks and until then create and remove the two doors that still remain, before beginning the process all over again.

For the human butler, if you use the’ holding down 1′ trick you will have ample time to create and remove two sets of doors before he returns. It’s suggested that you stand behind the door in the 1×2 space when you are building. Do not delete them on the second pair of doors right after you have sent your butler to get more planks. It will render the butler to spawn next to you and also get the planks quicker to send him out to get more. You should get about 270K-300 K of expertise an hour if you can send your butler out immediately when he’s back.

On every 8th Bank trip, Demon butler will demand 10k payment.

  • Experience that is required: 11,938,153
  • Doors to goal: 19,897
  • Oak planks that are required: 198,970
  • Experience gained every hour: 450,000 – 517,200
  • Time estimate: 26.5 to 39.8 hours
  • Cost: -96,699,420
  • Cost per XP: -8.1

What are the benefits of building a well established house in game?

If you have a well equipped house in OSRS, you will be able to make your game super easy and convenient for you. Some of the benefits of building a house is that you can get all types of teleports from your own house without finding them in your bank or running to the grand exchange to buy them. Second most important thing is, you can get a mounted glory in the house to use amulet of glory for teleports anytime. This is very useful in some skilling methods such as training hunter to 99,during birdhouse runs or during farming runs. The house can also be used for house parties among your fellow clan members or close friends. You can also find other runescape skill guides on our guides page or homepage.

Don’t wait and get your construction to 99 as soon as possible!
